Ai Weiwei uses music to mock state power in China

BEIJING (AP) -- Two emotionless prison guards watch Ai Weiwei as he eats, sleeps, paces, showers - and even sits on the toilet - in the Chinese artist's new obscenity-filled, metaphor-rich music video mocking state power.

The video accompanying the visual artist's heavy metal single "Dumbass," released Wednesday, is meant to reconstruct his 81-day detention in 2011, which was part of an overall crackdown on dissent. Ai's subsequent conviction for tax evasion has been seen as punishment for his activism.

"People who are detained suffer traumas, and those who detain us know this very well," Ai said at a video premiere ceremony in Beijing. "This is why we are secretly detained, blindfolded, cuffed, not allowed to meet with lawyers and relatives.

"I had been thinking about how to recover from the trauma. And I came up with the idea of using music to convey a sentiment that is tremendously secret, and private, to the public," Ai said.

After his release, Ai's design firm was slapped with a $2.4 million tax bill, which he fought unsuccessfully in the Chinese courts.

Ai has irked Beijing by using his art and online profile to draw attention to injustices in China and the need for greater transparency and rule of law.

His music video depicts an insensitive, overbearing state power that tramples on individual rights. The lyrics include obscene insults, and the images include animals that have become euphemisms for defiantly circumventing strict censorship.

"This video was not shot for me, and this song, I am not singing for myself," Ai said. "This is dedicated to all those people who do not have the opportunity to raise their voice, who will never be able to raise their voices. This is not just one generation, in the past 60 years there have been innumerable amounts of people who have been killed or sent away from their homes, even tortured to death."

The music video has Ai himself singing the song's explicit lyrics. "Dumbass" is the first single from Ai's forthcoming music album "The Divine Comedy."

Xbox OneGuide brings HDMI in/out, overlays for live TV

Xbox One includes HDMI passthrough, adds overlays to and takes control of your cable box

Today Microsoft revealed the Xbox One, and confirmed rumors that its new game console is ready to take over as the heart of your home theater. The new box features HDMI in and out for passthrough with your cable or satellite box. It's even able to control connected devices with Kinect 2.0-detected voice and gesture commands thanks to IR blasters and HDMI-CEC. On stage, executives showed off the Xbox OneGuide, demonstrating a way to pull up information including trending programming or fantasy sports stats while watching live TV. There's also a live TV show for Halo in the works, and Microsoft brought NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on stage to talk about integration with the number one pro sports league. There's no word on exactly which cable, telco or satellite TV systems this will integrate with, but Microsoft's PR states it "is committed to bringing live TV through various solutions to all the markets where Xbox One will be available" and mentions HDMI is required for the feature to work. It's supposed to be available at launch in the US, with "global scale" anticipated over time. Check after the break for a few pics of the guide and the back of the Xbox One showing its IR output.

Childhood ADHD Linked to Obesity in Adulthood

Increased risk of adult obesity is one of the long-term consequences facing children with ADHD, even if their diagnostic symptoms fade

Identification and treatment issues surrounding attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are challenging enough. Now research is shedding light on long-term outcomes for people with ADHD. A May 20 study in Pediatrics reports that men who had ADHD in childhood are twice as likely to be obese in middle age, even if they no longer exhibit symptoms of ADHD.

ADHD is a mental disorder characterized by hyperactivity, impulsivity, inattention and inability to focus. It affects approximately 6.8 percent of U.S. children ages 3 to 17 in any given year, according to a recent report by the CDC. Medications used to treat ADHD, such as Ritalin (methylphenidate) or Adderall (dextroamphetamine and amphetamine), are stimulants that can suppress appetite; however, a couple recent retrospective studies have pointed to a possible increased risk for obesity among adults diagnosed with ADHD as children.

The new 33-year prospective study started with 207 healthy middle-class white boys from New York City between 6 and 12 years old, who had been diagnosed with ADHD. When the cohort reached an average age of 18, another 178 healthy boys without ADHD were recruited for comparison. At the most recent follow-up when the participants were an average age of 41, a total of 222 men remained in the study.

A troubling pattern emerged: A comparison of the men?s self-reported height and weight revealed that twice as many men with childhood ADHD were obese than those without childhood ADHD. The average body mass index (BMI) of the men with childhood ADHD was 30.1 and 41.4 percent were obese, whereas those without the condition as kids reported an average BMI of 27.6 and an obesity rate of 21.6 percent. The association held even after the researchers controlled for socioeconomic status, depression, anxiety and substance abuse disorders.

The results have implications for parents currently raising kids with ADHD. ?Many parents are concerned that their children may not be gaining as much weight as they should because [ADHD] medications can decrease appetite in the short run, but these results would lead me to be much less worried about that now,? says corresponding author F. Xavier Castellanos of the Phyllis Green and Randolph Cowen Institute of Pediatric Neuroscience at NYU Langone Medical Center. ?It helps us to realize that over the long run, the potential risks of obesity, of overeating and of dysregulation, are a more prominent long-term concern.?

The study is case-controlled, which means researchers identified participants (cases) with the condition and then matched them to a control population to compare outcomes and look for risk factor differences. Therefore, it cannot prove causation because it?s observational. Only a randomized, controlled trial could show that obesity is caused by ADHD, but it?s impossible to randomize participants to have ADHD, both because it?s unethical and because researchers do not know precisely what causes ADHD. Possible causes could include genetics, nutrition, environmental factors or brain injuries.

These findings, however, are similar to results in other studies that have found links between ADHD and obesity. The previous studies, however, were retrospective (relying on participants? recall), did not focus exclusively on ADHD (included other conduct disorders) or compared only men with adult ADHD to men with remitted childhood ADHD, rather than to controls without ADHD. This prospective study is the most long-term and the first to focus exclusively on adult obesity rates in men with childhood ADHD compared to men without childhood ADHD. Its findings therefore contribute to the growing evidence base for an association between obesity and childhood ADHD.?

Kollur in Hyderabad sees real estate growth | Magicbricks.com ...

Hyderabad

Many builders, especially small developers are coming up with new projects in places like Kollur village. `Kollur Village is located along the ORR and is easily accessible from Gachibowli. Considering the high real estate prices in Gachibowli financial district, there is a spill over effect of demand for housing. In Kollur independent houses and villas are available for Rs 40-50 lakh and it is targeting people who work in Gachibowli financial district,? says Nitin Bichala, MD & CEO, Brook Realtors.

Kollur is the second village after Tellapur, located along the ORR. It is also outside the purview of GO 111 that bans organized residential and commercial development to protect Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar lakes.

Currently, it is the small developers, who have taken an active interest in Kollur. `But many big developers are also actively looking at new projects here. They have already taken land and in 3-4 years, there will be full-fledged building activity here. As of now, small projects are under construction and it will take another year for them to get completed,? says Bichala.

The distance between Kollur and Gachibowli Financial District is 13 kilometre and projects such as Golden Gate Properties and Elite Vllas and Blossom Heights are gathering momentum there. Also, residential plots are up for sale in Kollur.

But many feel it Kollur is a place suitable only for long term investment. But it is too early to predict the rate of development. The land prices have appreciated in Kollur suddenly but it does not encourage projects in short term due to the lack of public infrastructure, which may shy away the serious developers.

It is too far-fetched to expect great development in Kollur because there is still concentration on places like APPA and Tellapur where in development has not reached the saturation point,? says Anand Reddy, Executive Director, PBEL City.

According to him, Kollur is still in the stage of land acquisition and it would take many more years to reach the stage of the southern side of Gachibowli. `It would take 4-5 years to completely develop the social infrastructure in areas like Kollur. it would be better for a long-term investment. Once there are more projects announced, then we definitely see better affordability in Kollur,? he says.

Slimmer Aguilera wows at Billboard Awards

Christina Aguilera in 2011 (left) and on Sunday.

Christina Aguilera has brought the genie out of the bottle one more time -- surprising and delighting viewers at last night's Billboard Music Awards with a sleek, sexy new look and trimmed-down body.

Aguilera, who will soon return to "The Voice" as a coach, has struggled with her weight over the years, most particularly after the birth of her son in 2008. "I've been on all spectrums (weight-wise)," Us magazine reported she told reporters at a TCA conference in 2012. "I've been in this (business) for a long time. You can never be too perfect, too thin, too curvy, voluptuous this, that. I've been on all sides of the spectrum as far as any female in this business."

Of course, anyone who's been keeping an eagle eye on the 32-year-old in recent weeks knew she'd had a bodacious bod remake, showing it off at the "The Voice's" season 4 premiere in March and again at the 2013 Time 100 Gala in April.

But onstage Sunday night in a mini dress, belting out "Feel This Moment" with Pitbull, she wasn't just strolling down the red carpet -- but in her element, on stage. And she looked terrific.

Still, Aguilera does seem to have her head on straight about her body. In 2012, when she was a few sizes larger, she told People that "I embrace my body, and I embrace everything about myself.... I'm embracing everything that I've grown to be and learned to be."

Animal Planet Hide & Seek Pets By Cupcake Digital | Appy Mall

By?Christie Dwyer

Overall Impression

Animal Planet Hide & Seek Pets is an easy to maneuver and intuitively designed app for toddlers and preschool children! There are plenty of animal fun activities to keep your child engaged and at the same time practicing basic skills based on US Common Core State Standards. Children can play with animals, trace letters, do jigsaw and memory puzzles, color, and even play a virtual piano. There is definitely plenty of content to keep a child busy exploring the different areas and characteristics of the animals. Realistic photos of the animals are included. Coloring is great as it helps avoid those who get frustrated because they have difficulty staying within the lines. The ability to save coloring pictures is included. And the tracing section provides the direction in which the child should trace each letter as well as doesn?t allow random scribbles. So for those lovers of animals, hide and seek, and coloring and other activities, this is a great engaging all-in-one app with great features to check out.

Overview

Animal Planet Hide & Seek Pets is another great app for the toddler/preschool age children to explore pet-based activities. Partnered with the Discovery Channel (Animal Planet series), developer Cupcake Digital has packed activities that will appeal to all pet lovers. After pressing the play button, the user winds up seeing a cute little hamster on a wheel. Tap the hamster to start spinning him and which animal related icon he lands on determines which of six different pet animals will be introduced. For example, there is a bone for a dog and yarn for a cat. The learner begins to play hide and seek to find the particular animal in various different clever ways, including using a flashlight to find a turtle or removing flower petals to uncover a rabbit. The app has cute graphics throughout, and does an excellent job of using photo realistic pics of the animals. Once uncovered, the animals can be moved around the page.

I was impressed with how many fun filled facts are included and how the text is highlighted as it is being narrated. This is great feature for all pre-emergent and beginning readers. And my preschooler was fascinated with these facts, and has mentioned some of them to me when seeing the particular animals outside of the app?s context, whether it be in a story or in real life. So this app does a great job at engaging a child with knowledge and having fun doing it. At the bottom of the screen, a child has the ability to play various fun activities, such as completing a jigsaw puzzle, tracing, memory matching, as well as a hide and seek activity. Each activity section is based on the section?s particular animal and has both an ?easy? as well as a ?hard? mode to choose from. Tracing is well thought out as learners trace either the capital/lowercase first letter of the animal (easy) or the entire name of the animal (hard section.)

Throughout the app from the menu hamster wheel to each individual game, there is a ??? icon that when pressed explains directions of how to play the game or take the next step. Also, the paw print in the top left corner allows for the user to return home at anytime. The paw print also opens up more fun activities that can be enjoyed- paint, music, sticker, learn, and options. The painting section has many different pictures to pick from as well as different coloring sources- paintbrush, chalk, crayon, spray paint, and even a paint bucket. The user can save his artwork to the iPad?s camera, or even erase the work by tapping the ?recycle? button. I was impressed by the fact to erase one?s work, one has to first answer the yes/no question, ?are you sure you want to erase all?? So with this two-step process, one cannot just accidentally touch the recycle button, and suddenly have it all disappear.

The music section includes an animal piano, where the particular animals can make the sounds of the keys, or hear the piano tones. The sticker section has resizable stickers that can be moved anywhere across the screen, as well as recycled if not interested in keeping it in the scene. The learn section has a place to rate the app, see credits, see common core standards, as well as a neat ?Grown-Up?s Corner? which gives some stimulating questions for parents/teachers to have a conversation with the child/children. The options section allow for volume change in music, sound, and voice narration. There is really no need for tracking progress or multiple different users, as this is more a fun app that has valuable features that can be read or played over and over again.

Issues/Wishlist

  • I wish in the hide and seek sections, the animals could be hidden in different places each time.

Breakaway Scotland to face high saver protection costs - UK study

By William James

LONDON (Reuters) - The cost of protecting Scottish savers would prove difficult to bear if the country broke away from the rest of the UK, a study by the Treasury said on Monday.

The findings come in the latest paper from the British government on how independence would impact the country. On Sunday the Treasury said an independent Scotland would have a huge financial sector relative to its economy, leaving it vulnerable to a Cyprus-style banking crisis.

Existing schemes to provide a deposit guarantee to British savers and protect pension payouts would not cover Scotland if its voters decide to break away from the UK in a referendum due to be held next September, the Treasury said on Monday.

"Arrangements that protect UK savers from financial shocks could be difficult and expensive to maintain in an independent Scotland," the report said.

The UK currently guarantees bank deposits up to 85,000 pounds ($129,100), paid for by a levy on its financial sector. However the likely structure of the Scottish banking industry would prove less suited to such a system.

"The retail deposit market in a separate Scotland would be dominated by only two large banks and, if one of these were to fail, the costs for compensating the depositors would fall almost entirely on the one remaining bank," a Treasury statement accompanying the report said.

The Scottish National Party which controls Scotland's devolved government and is behind the independence campaign has dismissed the Treasury report and is due to issue its own study on Tuesday, highlighting the benefits of a split from Britain. ($1 = 0.6582 British pounds)

Nintendo partners with Best Buy so you can play unreleased Wii U games in store during E3

There's nothing more frustrating than watching a product or service get announced, then having to wait an age to try it out. Nintendo hears that, and has announced via Nintendo Direct, that during E3 week, Best Buy will have playable demos of as-yet released Wii U games in 100 stores across the US and Canada. Given that no one was likely expecting any new hardware from the firm, it's clear the gaming stalwart is looking for other ways to stir-up some interest. There's no mention of titles, so we're left to assume they'd be the games announced at the show. Either way, scratch out that week in June to make sure you find out first hand. Scrub right to the end of the video past the break to see the announcement for yourself.

Collision closes New York area train route as NTSB investigates (+video)

A team from the National Transportation Safety Board arrived Saturday to investigate a?commuter rail collision that?caused a prominent railroad line near New York City to be partially closed.

Amtrak service between New York and New Haven, Conn., is also closed while the incident is investigated and damage repaired.

At about 6:10 p.m. Friday a Metro-North train heading east from New York City derailed outside Bridgeport, Conn., and was hit by a westbound train on an adjacent track. Some 700 passengers were on board the trains, the Associated Press reported.

The cause was unclear. Some local officials said it did not appear to be terrorism, and a team from the National Transportation Safety Board arrived Saturday to investigate issues ranging from crew performance to the condition of the track.

The New York area?s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) said its commuter rail service between South Norwalk and New Haven is suspended until further notice, while regular service will operate between Stamford and Grand Central Terminal.

Commuters could be affected all week as the investigation proceeds.

The MTA said damage on the two affected tracks is ?extensive,? and that the two other tracks on this segment of the railway are out of service for a project replacing overhead wires.

?The [damaged] train cars cannot be removed until the on-scene investigation is complete, and they will need to be removed by crane,? the MTA said.

According to news reports, more than 60 people went to hospitals with injuries related to the collision.

Commuter rail accidents are relatively rare. One federal?study, looking at the decade between 1996 and 2005, found a declining rate of accidents (with 33 accidents or incidents per million total commuter-train miles in 2005).

Injuries generally totaled fewer than 2,000 per year, and fatalities fewer than 100 per year, during that 10-year period.

(AP) ? An elderly driver plowed into dozens of hikers marching in a Saturday parade in a small Virginia mountain town and investigators were looking into whether he suffered a medical emergency before the accident.

About 50 to 60 people suffered injuries ranging from critical to superficial, but no fatalities were reported. Three of the worst injured were flown by helicopter to area hospitals. Their conditions weren't immediately available.

Another 12 to 15 victims were taken to hospitals by ambulance and the rest were treated at the scene, where some paramedics and other first-responders were participating in the parade.

It happened around 2:10 p.m. during the Hikers Parade at the Trail Days festival, an annual celebration of the Appalachian Trail in Damascus, near the Tennessee state line about a half-hour drive east of Bristol.

Damascus Police Chief Bill Nunley didn't release the driver's name or age but said he was participating in the parade and he had traversed the Appalachian Trail in the past. Multiple witnesses described him as an elderly man.

Nunley said the man's 1997 Cadillac was one of the last vehicles in the parade and the driver might have suffered an unspecified medical problem when his car accelerated to about 25 mph and struck the crowd on a two-lane bridge along the town's main road. The driver was among those taken to hospitals.

"It is under investigation and charges may be placed," Nunley said.

Witnesses said the car had a handicapped parking sticker and it went more than 100 feet before coming to a stop.

"He was hitting hikers," said Vickie Harmon, a witness from Damascus. "I saw hikers just go everywhere."

Amanda Puckett, who was watching the parade with her children, ran to the car, where she and others lifted the car off those pinned underneath.

"Everybody just threw our hands up on the car and we just lifted the car up," she said.

Keith Neumann, a hiker from South Carolina, said he was part of the group that scrambled around the car. They pushed the car backward to free a woman trapped underneath and lifted it off the ground to make sure no one else was trapped.

"There's no single heroes. We're talking about a group effort of everybody jumping in," he said.

Nunley cited quick action by police, firefighters, paramedics and hikers to tend to the victims, including a volunteer firefighter who dove into the car to turn off the ignition. The firefighter, whose name wasn't released, suffered minor injuries.

Mayor Jack McCrady encouraged people to attend the festival on Sunday, its final day.

"In 27 years of this, we've never had anything of this magnitude, and is it our job to make sure it doesn't happen again," he said.

McCrady said a donation fund was being set up to assist the injured, some of whom don't have medical insurance.

"We want to make sure they don't suffer any greater loss than they already have," he said.

George Michael recovering after car crash

George Michael in 2012.

British singer George Michael has received medical treatment after a car crash on Thursday, his publicist said. The 49-year-old former Wham! frontman was being treated for "minor cuts and bruises" after the accident, Michael's spokeswoman said.

"George Michael was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a traffic accident yesterday evening, no third party was involved," a spokeswoman said on Friday. "He is being treated for superficial cuts and bruises but is fine."

British media reported that the accident occurred just outside London on a motorway during rush hour.

The "Careless Whisper" singer has suffered a string of accidents and health scares recently.

Last year he canceled his tour of Australia due to "major anxiety" brought on by a 2011 battle with severe pneumonia in Vienna, where he was treated in intensive care for a month for a life-threatening illness.

Michael has sold an estimated 100 million records over his career, but has hit headlines in recent years for his personal life more often than for his music.

In 1998 he was arrested in California for "engaging in a lewd act" in a public toilet and also had a number of run-ins with British police for possession of narcotics. He served a term in jail for driving under the influence of cannabis.

MALMO, Sweden (AP) ? An ethno-inspired flute and drum tune from Denmark is the bookmakers' favorite to win this year's Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday, which also features a bizarre opera pop number from Romania and an Armenian rock song written by the guitarist of Black Sabbath.

Yes, it's that time of the year again.

The televised pan-European extravaganza, known for its kitschy shows, bad taste and bizarre offerings, is still expected to be seen by about 125 million television viewers worldwide.

This year's contest is being hosted in Malmo, southern Sweden, following the victory of the Nordic country's contestant Loreen with "Euphoria" last year.

According to bookmakers, the hippie-chic Emmelie De Forest of Denmark is the favorite to win, driving the song "Only Teardrops" with her deep, Shakira-like voice. Her main challenge comes from the clean-cut techno pop tune "I Feed You My Love" by Norway's Margaret Berger, who rose to fame at home after becoming the runner-up in Norway's version of Pop Idol in 2004.

"I will be nervous before going on stage," De Forest said Friday. "I think we have a really good song that can take us far, but let's see, anything can happen."

Finland's Krista Siegfrid provided this year's controversy, ending her bouncy bubble-gum pop number "Marry Me" with a girl-on-girl kiss that some have interpreted as a stance promoting gay marriage. While the show will not raise eyebrows in most parts of Western Europe ? where Eurovision has long been a bastion of gay culture ? the act may jar sensitivities in parts of eastern and southern Europe.

"The fact is that Finland is the only country in the Nordic countries where gay marriage is not allowed, and I think that's wrong," Siegfrid told The Associated Press. "It's 2013 now and ... I can kiss anyone I want to. It shouldn't be a problem."

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, who arrived in Malmo to watch the competition Saturday, said it is a unique event that unites Europe.

"We see the old Yugoslavia, now independent states, after a decade of war they always vote for each other in Eurovision, " Bildt said. "That I think is fun."

This year's competition also sees the return to the international stage of two seasoned European stars. "Total Eclipse of the Heart" singer Bonnie Tyler is representing Britain with "Believe In Me" while Anouk, whose song "Nobody's Wife" was a big hit in Europe in the 1990s, is singing the song "Birds" for The Netherlands.

Among the more notable performances is the Ukraine's Zlata Ognevich with her song "Gravity." Ognevich is carried onstage by the tallest man in the U.S. ? Ukrainian-born Igor Vovkovinskiy. Vovkovinskiy ? who stands 7 feet, 8 inches (234 centimeters) ?wobbles onstage in a fur and feathers, placing the fairy-like Ognevich on a rock where she stands for the rest of the performance.

There is also Armenian rock group Dorians, whose gloomy song "Lonely Planet" has been written by Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi.

Romania's Cezar, who resembles a Dracula reborn as a high-pitched vocalist, is apparently a reputable opera singer, but is attempting a crossover opera pop number with techno beats and pyrotechnics. Three muscular male dancers in red body paint are delivered out of a large red cape.

Two semifinals this week have whittled down the contestants from 40 to 26. The winner is picked by juries and television viewers across the continent, and the winning nation will stage next year's event.

Having won five times, most famously with ABBA's Waterloo in 1974, Sweden is a veteran of Eurovision. This weekend it is taking the opportunity to showcase some of its big music acts. The opening of the competition is set to feature a song especially composed by Swedish super DJ Aviici, together with ABBA members Bjorn Ulveaus and Benny Andersson.

Yet the event ? with a price tag of around 153.5 million Swedish kronor ($23 million) ? won't measure up to last year's lavish competition hosted by oil-rich Azerbaijan in its capital, Baku.

"We have attempted to host Eurovision with less money to show that it is possible to do this without it being too painful for the host country," said Jan-Erik Westman, a spokesman of host broadcaster SVT.

The festive atmosphere was visible throughout the city of Malmo on Saturday, where residents and visitors blended on the streets waving the flags of their favorite countries.

Talk To My Kid About SEX...Only If I Have To | Black and Married ...

Parenting

by BMWK Staff ?|? on May 17th, 2013 ?|?

by Deborah Mills,

When in the world did sex become a dreaded word? Goodness sake, it?s a natural beautiful three letter word, not a foul four letter word??

This has been a taboo discussion for as long as we can remember in many families. You can probably remember having conversations with your parents and wondering, ?Why in the world are they telling me this?? ?Or you may recall the fact that your parents didn?t tell you ANYTHING besides, ?Don?t do it!? You may even remember the crazy conversations you had with your friends.?

Based on the conversations you had with your friends isn?t it?better to equip our children with a sure foundation? ?This way when other youngsters bring them distorted truths and childhood folly (and this will happen), your child can be assured of the truth you have already instilled in them. ?This should not be a taboo topic in the household, allow your child to feel free to come home and ask questions about sex. Present sex as a positive subject, instead of a hidden mystery.?

It begins with teaching your child things such as:

- the story of where they came from

- how babies got in their mommy?s tummy and

- the proper names for body parts (nick names are fine but include proper vocabulary)

You can see this starts at a young age. You are laying little blocks that will build the big picture for them as they grow. This is just the beginning.?

Be willing to risk being embarrassed to properly educate your child. Step outside your comfort zone to properly prepare your baby girl or baby boy. The return on your investment of time, preparation, overcoming shame, and the notion that my child is too young for such information, is priceless. YOU are to be the primary sex educator for your child. You must move beyond the emotion surrounding the subject of your kid and sex. (Yes, we know this can be disturbing).??

Still, it is much better for your child to find out such things from loving parents/guardians rather than from the boy in class who knows less than your kid or the girl at lunch who knows way more than your child.??

Determine your parenting philosophy on this subject, so you can arm your child with age appropriate information. Alright, now you know what to do; here is a place to begin with the how to?s.?

God?s Design for Sex by Stan and Brenna Jones is a wonderful book series we used when our children were small. It is a series of age appropriate books that can be used with children from ages 3-14. It will get you started.

BMWK ? who first taught you about sex? ?How and when are you approaching the subject with your own kids?

Jets RB Goodson facing drug, weapons charges

(AP) ? New York Jets running back Mike Goodson is facing drug and weapons charges after he was found in a car with an acquaintance early Friday morning on Interstate 80 in New Jersey.

The Jets said they were aware of the arrest and were gathering information.

According to state police, Goodson was a passenger in a vehicle driven by 31-year-old Garant Evans of Roselle. After receiving a 911 call from a tow-truck driver at about 3:15 a.m., police found them stopped in the left lane of Interstate 80 west in Denville, about 25 miles west of New York city.

State Police Sgt. Adam Grossman said both men were charged with marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and weapons offenses stemming from a 45-caliber semi-automatic handgun found in the vehicle. Grossman wouldn't say whether either man was the registered owner of the gun.

Evans also was charged with DWI, several traffic violations and possession of a weapon with a prior felony.

Both men were being held Friday pending transfer to the Morris County jail, Evans on $150,000 bail and Goodson on $50,000 bail. It was not immediately known when they were scheduled to appear in court.

Goodson, 25, of Spring, Tex., played three seasons for Carolina and one for Oakland before the Jets signed him to a three-year, $9 million deal in March. He received a $1 million signing bonus.

The Panthers drafted him in 2009 out of Texas A&M. He ran for 221 yards and caught 16 passes for 195 yards last season for the Raiders.

Two weeks ago, the Jets cut defensive end Claude Davis and cornerback Cliff Harris after they were arrested and charged with marijuana possession in Morristown, several miles from where Goodson was arrested.

Khloe Kardashian, Lamar Odom: Kardashian Opens Up About Stepparenting In 'Redbook'

Khloe Kardashian is many things: reality TV star, outspoken older sister to sisters Kim and Kourtney, savvy business woman and doting wife to NBA star Lamar Odom. But many may not know about another important role she plays -- stepmom.

Odom, whom she married in 2009 after a month-long courtship, has two kids with ex girlfriend Liza Morales. (Their third child died of SIDS at six months old in 2006.)

In the latest issue of Redbook, on newsstands now, Kardashian opened up about what it's like being a stepmom.

When asked if stepparenting has been hard for her, Kardashian replied, "Everything can be hard. But I had the most phenomenal teacher ever: Bruce Jenner. He loved my dad and never spoke ill about him. I would never want Lamar's kids to think I didn't totally support them. I love their mom, and they need to know that."

Great advice!

(AP) ? Michael Chabon had long been mystified by that Bob Dylan lyric about "midnight's broken toe."

The Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, the keynote speaker Wednesday at the annual induction ceremony of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, was explaining his undiminished passion for rock music and confiding that he had become obsessed by the opening line to Dylan's "Chimes of Freedom."

"Far between sundown's finish an' midnight's broken toe."

The answer was both simple and embarrassing; Dylan was singing about "midnight's broken toll," not toe.

"How many hours I had devoted to (the idea) ... that midnight had toes, and that one of them, the big one, had been broken," Chabon said.

Rock 'n roll was officially welcomed by the 115-year-old academy, an "honor society" proud to call itself elite and home to some of the country's leading writers, composers, painters and sculptors. On Wednesday, Dylan became the first rock star inducted, joining a membership that includes E.L. Doctorow, Chuck Close and John Ashbery.

Chabon, giving an address delivered in previous years by Robert Frost and E.M. Forster among others, titled his speech "Rock 'n' Roll," a title and concept he swears he thought of before learning that Dylan had been elected. To laughter, applause and a few frowns, he shifted from tributes to such "exuberant" poets as Frank O'Hara to boyish pleasure over passages from Dylan, Dire Straits, the Ramones and the Doors.

"Song lyrics have arguably mattered more to me" than writers of prose and poetry, said Chabon, whose latest novel, "Telegraph Avenue," is set in part at a record store.

It was an unusual setting to hear Chabon ?or anyone ? recite the Ramones' punk chant, "Beat on the brat, with a baseball bat, oh yeah." The ceremony was held in the pillared, high-ceilinged auditorium at the academy's beaux arts complex in upper Manhattan. Chabon, who turns 50 this month, was voted in last year and returned Wednesday to give the keynote talk, known as the Blashfield Address.

The academy welcomed three new members to its core group of 250 ? author Ward Just and artists Terry Winters and Richard Tuttle. A wide range of prizes were handed out, with recipients ranging from novelist Jennifer Egan to NPR host Ira Glass.

Dylan wasn't there, but a performer of comparable acclaim not only attended, but took on extra duties: Meryl Streep. When Stephen Sondheim was unable to attend and present awards for musical theater, the Oscar-winning actress stepped in. Streep, elected as an honorary member in 2011, later handed a "distinguished service" prize to dancer Edward Villella.
