INDIANAPOLIS (AP) ? A southern Indiana high school wrecked by tornadoes won a free concert by country music stars Lady Antebellum on Tuesday thanks to a rival school that, along with students in other states, advocated on the battered school's behalf in an online contest.
Schools from as far away as northern Wisconsin submitted YouTube videos urging the Grammy-winning group to choose Henryville High School in the band's "Own the Night" contest offering the winning school a concert at its prom. Henryville's schools were heavily damaged when powerful tornadoes ripped through the region earlier this month, killing 13 people.
The winning video was entered by students at longtime sports rival Silver Creek High School in nearby Sellersburg, Ind. Henryville also got video support from a southern Illinois community hit by a fatal tornado in February.
"It meant a lot to us and made a lot of people cry. Knowing there's that many people out there that cared to give it to us instead of their own prom," said 17-year-old Henryville junior Daniele Kats.
She said word spread quickly on Facebook about Lady Antebellum's choosing her school for the concert, adding: "It's gonna be awesome."
Lady Antebellum said the band was touched by Henryville's "story, resilience and unity following devastating tornadoes." Because of a scheduling conflict, the trio won't be able to perform at Henryville's prom on April 27, so a concert will be held for juniors and seniors in nearby Louisville, Ky., on May 16, followed by a benefit for the community.
Lady Antebellum singer Charles Kelley said Henryville students shouldn't be disappointed that the band won't be able to visit their community.
"Trust me, we have something even bigger in store," Kelley said in the band's video announcing the win. Fellow singer Hillary Scott added: "See you soon, Henryville!"
The trio, rounded out by Dave Haywood, won best country album at this year's Grammy Awards for "Own the Night," and took home several Grammys last year, including record and song of the year for "Need You Now." Details about its Louisville concert will be released soon.
The winning video from Silver Creek High School included footage of the devastation in Henryville and interviews with residents. It ends with a student standing in a field before dozens of classmates, saying: "Lady A, even if we don't win the contest, we're still going to own the night anyway" before they begin chanting "HHS! HHS!"
Other video entries supporting Henryville came from D.C. Everest Senior High School in Weston, Wis., and from Harrisburg, Ill., where a tornado that struck Feb. 29 killed seven people. Harrisburg students said that despite their community's loss, they decided to back Henryville's prom bid.
Henryville art teacher Amy Fischmer, the prom committee's co-chairwoman, said her students were "grateful and happy" about the outpouring of support on the school's behalf following the devastating storms on March 2.
"That day was a tragedy, but they're just rallying and making the most of it and just enjoying life," she said. "For the winning video to be one that was entered on their behalf from another school makes it mean so much more. It kind of reaffirms your hope in humanity."
Classes for Henryville high school students will resume on April 2 in a nearby community. The prom, which is expecting about 200 students, also will be held at another site.
Mary Beth Coffman, Silver Creek's mass media teacher, recruited three of her students to be the video's stars and spent two days filming in Henryville for the video.
"I've been jumping up and down and screaming by myself," Coffman said. "I'm so excited to be part of something that's going to be so special."

DUBAI (Reuters) - UAE telecoms operator Etisalat, which saw $1.8 billion moved over its network last year via money transfers, has sought regulatory approval to expand its financial services offerings in the Gulf region, home to millions of expatriates.
Mobile money services allow customers to pay bills or make remittances using SMS text messages, often at a cheaper cost than through banks or money transfer firms.
"Remittances are a huge business opportunity," George Held, director of products and services at Etisalat, told Reuters.
"The cost base for telecoms operators is much different than for banks and exchange houses. We do not need bricks and mortar branches, so our costs are lower and we can pass on this saving and offer better exchange rates and transaction fees."
The former monopoly was expected to focus on its home market and Saudi Arabia. Both countries have large expat populations and inbound annual remittances were worth about $36 billion combined in 2010, Held said.
About 89 percent of the UAE's 8.3 million population are expatriates, while in Saudi Arabia just over a fifth of the 27 million population are foreigners.
Etisalat's Egypt unit could also profit from an estimated $8 billion of inbound remittances from Egyptians working abroad.
Etisalat has tied up with Western Union and MoneyGram International to allow money sent by mobile customers in the Middle East to be collected anywhere in the world.
Aside from remittances, the operator hopes to offer salary payments, peer-to-peer domestic funds transfers and utility and shop payments.
"Remittances will be an extremely important part of our mobile money services. But it is not enough alone to drive service adoption, so we will offer a mix of services to make it very hard for customers not to get involved," said Held.
Etisalat already offers some of these services in six countries, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Tanzania and plans to expand this to the 17 countries in which it operates in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
"We want to introduce mobile money in the rest of our markets as soon as possible. It is not a technical issue, but ticking all the boxes from a regulatory, compliance and customer education point of view," Held said.

Mobile money has taken off in parts of Africa, where a minority of people hold bank accounts and the banking infrastructure in rural areas remains limited.
About 8 percent of Tanzania's gross domestic product is thought to go through mobile banking.
Text-based financial services will not help stem a decline in global SMS revenues - seen dropping up to 40 percent over the next three years as users opt for alternative text services such as BlackBerry Messenger or WhatsApp - but it can improve customer loyalty.
"When people have a mobile wallet ... we believe they will stay with us for a long time," Held said. "When was the last time you changed your bank account?"
Etisalat will face challenges in convincing customers in the Gulf region, who have easy access to banking and exchange houses, to switch.
"In this region, people are used to going to the bank for transactions - they like to get a receipt. It is not a game-changer for telecom operators' revenues," said a regional telecoms analyst.
Pedro Oliveira, partner at consultant Oliver Wyman, said telecoms operators face a tough task competing with conventional exchange houses.
"Low income workers in the Gulf count every penny. So, it is not convenience that matters, but cost," he said. "For expats with prepaid contracts wanting to send money home, they would have to buy prepaid cards to top up their phone balance and then send a text."

Orange, who previously represented Ward 5, is one of the councilmembers who benefited from Thompson's donations.

The office of Mary Cheh sent out a tweet confirming that the Ward 3 Democrat has not received a subpoena and that "[a]nyone who says or suggests differently is wrong."
Councilmember Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6), in an interview on WTTG-TV/Fox 5 said that he did not receive a subpoena and did not expect to receive one.
Former Mayor Marion Barry (D), who represents Ward 8, would not answer a question about the subpoenas when asked by reporters.

"The point of the conference is to ask whether ethics plays the part it should in both day-to-day medical practice and in the planning and reform of the health care service," explained conference organiser, Dr Andrew Edgar of Cardiff University.
"Since its conception in the 1940s, the nature and purpose of the welfare state has been interpreted in two complementary ways. On one hand, it can be seen as efficient economic practice, and on the other, as an expression of our moral commitment to fellow citizens - in the words of the British philosopher Michael Oakeshott, a 'civil association'."
He added: "The conference is especially timely, as the England Health Care bill is focusing public and media attention on fundamental questions about the nature of the NHS.
"Our conference will in particular address the dangers that arise when instrumental or economic justifications of the NHS start to dominate."
