Cornell was placed among the best according to the NCAA Division I Academic Progress Report for 2010-2011. The University had 11 teams honored ?? baseball, men?s and women?s basketball, fencing, field hockey, football, golf, gymnastics, men?s and women?s soccer and softball.
The APR ranking is measured by utilizing semester-by-semester records for every individual team in Division I with regard to each team members? continuing eligibility, retention and progress toward graduation.
The NCAA "commends" teams that have APR scores in the top 10 percent within their sport, with the necessary score ranging from 975 to a perfect 1000. A total of 131 Ivy League teams were "commended" for an average of 16.4 teams per school. Ivy teams comprised 13.7 percent of the 954 teams honored from across the Division I ranks. A team's APR is the total points earned divided by the total points possible.?
Since the start of the rankings, Cornell has had a total of 71 teams in 20 sports honored with public recognition.?
In addition to overall high APR scores, there have been multiple other Cornellians who have received accolades for their performances on and off the field.?
The hockey team grabbed a host of awards and recognition as their players performed on and off the ice. Fifteen members of the men?s hockey team were named to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team - Keir Ross ?12, Locke Jillson ?12, Sean Whitney ?12, Sean Collins, seniors Erik Axell, Nick D?Agostino and Omar Kanji, juniors Rodger Craig and Andy Iles and sophomores Vince Mihaelk, Cole Bardreau, Kevin Cole, John McCarron, Vincenzo Marozzi and Jacob MacDonald. Senior defensemen Keir Ross was also named the 2011-12 ECAC Hockey Men's Student-Athlete of the Year. The award recognizes academic achievement, as well as accomplishments on and off of the ice of ECAC Hockey student-athletes. Ross was one of 12 nominated for the honor and the second from Cornell to win the award over the last three years, following Colin Greening ?10.?
Seven Cornell gymnasts were also named Scholastic All-Americans by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women including senior McKenna Archer, senior Ashley Maher, junior Mackenzie Sato, sophomore Maia Vernacchia, Tiffany Chen ?12, Bethany Neczypor ?12 and Melanie Standridge ?12.?
The Red can also boast that eight members of the Cornell women?s track and field team made the 2012 Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team. These players include Molly Glantz ?12, seniors Claire Dishong, Aillish Hanly and Katie Kellner, juniors Ebolutalese Airewele, Devin McMahon and Anjelique Parnell and sophomore Emily Woodford.?
